Office of Violence Against Women

Practicum

At Point Park University, I took place in a practicum for The Office of Violence Against Women. The practicum’s requirements was to get an x amount of hours working for a department or club at the University. It didn’t take long to decide which I wanted to take part of and contribute to and landed on this newly built program. The program covered anything from domestic violence, domestic abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner sexual violence, violence on college campus, and the list goes on. This specific program was brand new and let us group of students have so much creative freedom when it came to designing the marketing, the social media posts, and the informational flyers.

My role out of the group was to create the informational flyers that were designed to show awareness and ways that students can get help if ever found in a violent situation. The benefits that the practicum had lead to gaining real world experience, as well as team collaboration, and kind of getting a feel of what a job in the real world may look and feel like. With the topics being so serious, I was torn on making the designs just a simple black and white, but then rethinking the fact that the topics are so serious lead to this decision of keeping the designs bright, vibrant, and lead towards the fun side of design.
